How does When I Grow Up work?
We don’t pretend. The most important thing we in the West can bring to help the children we reach is financial help. Our partners in Kenya, Mexico, Guatemala and in the Central Valley, CA have skills, knowledge, talent and ability – but lack the essential dollars to make things happen. We formed this non-profit to create a safe and effective route for people wanting to help suffering and struggling children. With vetted and accountable partners your regular or one-off financial gift can literally save a life.We are partnering people working where little or no other help is reaching. We know these leaders, we visit them and see where the hard earned dollars you give is spent. We know that your donation makes a huge difference in the life of a child. When I Grow Up works by offering people a safe and effective channel to give the resource of money to help some of the neediest children around the globe.
Can I go on an international short term trip with When I Grow Up?
When I Grow Up does not operate as a volunteer program. As we’ve travelled and learned we’ve seen how a large influx of people from another culture without a clear understanding of that country’s culture and history can be detrimental. The partners we support focus on local indigenous people helping local people.Volunteer opportunities in the Central Valley CA are organized through Redeemer’s Church, Reedley, CA. Leadership trips are arranged via Redeemer’s Church to see how our global partners are developing and to bring accountability.
Is When I Grow Up a 501c3 charity?
When I Grow Up is a 501(c)3 charity as determined by the IRS. Our Tax ID number is 51-0657890. Donations received through the mail or online will qualify as charitable giving in your annual tax returns. We will provide suitable tax receipts.
Where does money donated to When I Grow Up go?
When I Grow Up supports the partners that When I Grow Up considers suitable to partner with. Our various partners have shown themselves to be responsible and effective in handling minimal resources and using them to maximize effective. Having shown themselves responsible and faithful with small resources we trust them to bring equal diligence and effectiveness with greater resources. Your donations go to help the programs our partners run. Occasionally we promote a specific need one of our partner’s highlight that is beyond the normal amount they are given to operate with.
Can I give any amount to When I Grow Up?
Yes. No amount is too little; no amount is too big. A regular monthly commitment helps us establish a budget that can give our partners some assurance as to what we can help with over a longer period of time. Stability in our help is a high value and regular giving helps us give this to our partners. While this kind of donation is helpful with the needs so great every donation is appreciated and every donor valued.
What is When I Grow Up’s political stance?
Many of the issues that affect the children we help i.e. poverty, disease, crime, lack of education, etc. overlap with political decisions made by governments at various times in various situations. While When I Grow Up is a nonpartisan organization we sometimes need to speak out about the underlying systemic issues that need to change. At these times we are not supporting one political party over another – we are supporting the children and their need for things to change.
